Presenter: Dr. David Hawley, Principal Scientist
Title: Strawberry Success: Strategies for Overcoming Product Challenges
Whether in a vertical farm or greenhouse, strawberry production can be a challenge for any grower.
On this panel, Fluence principal scientist Dr. David Hawley will discuss some of the critical challenges and strategies to overcome difficulties, the state of the CEA strawberry growing industry and compare vertical farm and greenhouse production side by side.
Dr. Hawley has been instrumental in designing and implementing the company’s global research strategy, which encompasses studies on strawberries, leafy greens and medical cannabis in the United States, Canada, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Fluence’s research has uncovered numerous insights into plant response to variations in light spectrum, intensity and photoperiod, unlocking improvements in crop yield, morphology and overall performance in selected cultivars.
Fluence believes in harnessing the power of research to help growers consistently and successfully cultivate strawberries and other traditionally-challenging crops. In pursuit of that vision, Fluence has conducted and released major research outlining the use of various light spectra on indoor and greenhouse strawberry cultivation. On this panel, Dr. Hawley can discuss insights from that research, highlighting the optimal light spectra for strawberry cultivation, breaking down the difference between cultivars and helping unlock the importance of standardizing other environmental factors.
