Session Title: Facility Design I: Guidelines and Policy for Resource Efficiency; HVAC, Lighting, and Controls Systems
This session by the Facility Design Committee will present findings and information from ongoing efforts to influence policy and educate the industry. Topics include Case Study examples of facility design to illustrate operational challenges and technical hurdles. Panelists will identify state regulations and various industry standards and demonstrate how to coordinate and navigate these hurdles.
- Mechanical Systems for plant environments – how to differentiate between system types, evaluate the efficacy, and right-size.
- Horticulture Lighting Equipment – HPS, LED, CMH, and fluorescent.
- Identify standard baselines and upgrade choices, critical factors for optimized and energy-efficient lighting design, incentives for retrofits, and how to determine Lighting Power Density (LPD).
- Data collection is critical to guide plant and energy performance. Control systems allow tuning between macro and microclimates—outline of peer-reviewed resources available to the community on best practices.
